Prof. Dr. dr dr hc Ralf J. Radlanski new President of the DGAO

At an extraordinary general meeting on August 17, 2023 in Cologne, the German Society for Aligner Orthodontics (DGAO) elected Prof. Dr. dr dr hc Ralf J. Radlanski with an overwhelming majority as the new president of the association. This step became necessary because Prof. em. dr Rainer-Reginald Miethke had resigned from the office of President in November 2022 for personal reasons after more than 15 years. Exactly nine months later to the day, the board of the DGAO is now being reorganized – and is thus setting the course for the future of the Scientific Society.

"Further development of knowledge" task of the DGAO

With Professor Radlanski, there is no stranger at the head of the DGAO. Since 2021, the passionate orthodontist and director of the Department of Oral Structural and Developmental Biology at the Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin has been a speaker for science and research on the board of the German Society for Aligner Orthodontics. He also thanks his predecessor, Professor Miethke, who led the DGAO from day one and kept it on track. He feels honored to succeed the founding President. Miethke has played a significant role in the fact that aligner orthodontics, as part of modern orthodontics, places the focus on medical requirements. This is also the mission for the future: “Constant technical development and basic biomechanical research will accompany us orthodontic specialists in the future of aligner treatment. The global networking of experts in this field and the further development of knowledge about aligner orthodontics are central tasks of a DGAO.”

Prof. Dr. Karl-Friedrich Krey moves up to the Executive Board

The General Assembly of the DGAO also elected – also with an overwhelming result – Prof. Dr. Karl-Friedrich Krey as a consultant for science and research at the DGAO. The director of the polyclinic for orthodontics at the University of Greifswald, a long-standing speaker at the DGAO congresses and a recognized aligner expert, thanked the members for their trust. He too is looking forward to the upcoming tasks, which he will carry out together with his fellow board members Dr. Boris Sonneberg (Vice President), Dr. Jörg Schwarze (Secretary General), Dr. Thomas Drechsler, Dr. Werner Schupp and conference president Dr. Julia Haubrich will tackle.

The next regular general meeting will also take place in Cologne on November 23, 2024 - and will thus end the 8th Scientific Congress for Aligner Orthodontics, to which the DGAO cordially invites you today.
